Description

FLY IS DESIGNED FOR WILDERNESS TENTS ONLY

INCLUDED IN THE WILDERNESS TENT PACKAGE - NO ADDITIONAL COST.

8 oz clear poly, not a thin tarp like at Walmart.

Has a 16" square cut out reinforced with webbing to match stove pipe opening in tent roof.

Includes 200 feet of rope and 20 tensioners. Grommets on each ridge end and along sides.

I STRONGLY RECOMMEND A  FLY: extends life of your tent.

Protects canvas roof from stove sparks burning a hole in roof.  It is much better to repair a fly or replace a fly than repair a  canvas roof or replace a tent due to spark holes.

Another moisture barrier.  There are thousands and thousands of stitching needle holes in the roof.  Normally these holes close once the canvas gets wet.  However, occasionally a needle hole will not close easily.  A fly will prevent any possible  water leaks.

Keeps roof clean.  When camping under trees pitch and dirt rains down on your tent roof.  The only way to remove pitch is to use a harsh detergent which destroys the water, mildew and fire treatment.  Then you will definitely need a fly because the roof will likely leak.

Takes water and snow 1 foot past each side of tent.  Fly overhangs 1 foot past each side wall to take snow and water from tent walls reducing the possibility of water coming into your tent.

Prevents rain water from running down from your roof and into side windows.  Occasionally a side window will leak if not using a fly. Sometimes the stitching needle holes will not close properly.

Insulation.  The space between the tent roof and fly is heated due to the heat from the tent escaping through the roof.

Protects roof from UV rays.  The first part of your tent that deteriorates is the roof due to UV rays. Increase life expectancy of your tent greatly.

If you are a hunter and are in the woods for extended periods, I RECOMMEND YOU BUY A FLY or some type of very heavy duty poly tarp to protect your tent roof. Additionally, there are thousands and thousands of needle holes in your roof. Ordinarily, those needle holes will close up when dousing your tent with water when you shrink the tent. However, sometimes there are needle holes that don't close up. It is best to buy a fly or heavy tarp so you don't have surprise leaks during hunting camp.

There is no guarantee on flys in windy conditions.  There is no fly made that can withstand normal fly placement on a tent in windy condition.  During windy conditions, take the fly down to prevent wind from getting under the fly.  Flys flapping in the wind will tear out the grommets and D rings and eventually tear the fly to shreds.
